We believe one of the main roles of the PTA is to identify needs of the school via the administration, the parents and student body, and to find solutions to address these needs, which often means raising funds. We intend to be completely transparent with the funds we raise and how they are allocated. According to PTA bylaws, any expenditure over $400 will be voted on by the parent body during the monthly PTA meetings. We will try to provide you with advance notice of these votes so you can be informed that voting is taking place and make every effort to attend the meetings.
In 2009-2010, we plan to group our fundraising activities into the following areas:
- Environmental
- Nutrition/Physical Education
- Music/Arts Partnerships
- Afterschool programs
- General fundraising
There are several initiatives that we have identified in these areas, and we will be discussing them during the next 2-3 PTA meetings, as well as posting about them here.
At our first PTA meeting on September 16, 2009, we will be voting on a school-wide, year-round yoga program ($15,000 for the school year) as well as an initiative to replace the use of styrofoam trays for school lunches with sugar cane trays (approx $6500 for the school year). We will present information on these programs during the PTA meeting,.
At first glance, we hope to raise a minimum of $50,000 this year to fund all the initiatives for the school, so we will need your help and energy in whatever form you can provide. Check out our volunteer page for more info on helping with events, or if you prefer to contribute money instead of time, please keep an eye and ear out for our direct donation drive to occur October through December 2009, and check back soon to use the PTA paypal account for donations.
Throughout the year, you can buy products through these sites (select PS132 as the organization you would like the proceeds to go to):
www.motherearthfundraising.com
Approximately 20-25% of your purchase will go to PS132 during non-fundraising drives, and up to 50% of the proceeds will go to PS132 during specific weeks. For more info on current fundraising drives, click here.
Hi,
Should we start sending in box tops? I have some I’ve collected over the summer and was wondering when that will start.
Thanks!
Lori
Hi Lori,
Thanks for posting on the blog! That’s so great that you were thoughtful enough to collect the box tops over the summer!
You should have received a paper flier in your child’s take home folder regarding the Box Tops 4 Education program; however, as we know, fliers aren’t perfect and don’t always travel well.
Yes. Please start sending in your Box Tops. They will be collected on October 22.
Thanks!
Trish
