Trish,
Thank you for your quick reply. My comment did not mention wanting to reward our children, while that is a lovely thought, I was wondering if you knew that the carnival has been kind of like a tradition for PS 132 and an event that is very much looked forward to by our children, parents and teachers.
Enjoy your weekend,
Denise Amore

Hi Denise,

Thanks so much for posting your comment on the blog!

Of course there is no harm in rewarding our children for their hard work.

However, as per PTA bylaws, we must vote on all PTA expenses which exceed $400. Since the Carnival is 100% funded by the PTA and, if similar to last year, will cost just under 7k, we will be voting on that expense. It is my understanding from discussing this issue with the administration that the Carnival expense has always been voted on.

We will be voting on the Carnival at our next PTA meeting on Oct. 14 @ 7pm. We hope to hear your voice that evening.

Best regards,
Trish Hale

I too don't ever remember a vote on having our annual carnival celebration. Frankly I don't understand the harm in bringing our entire school community together for a care free fun filled day. Perhaps we should have a school wide survey from our students and teachers and let them decide. As a teacher at P132 I know how much the teachers enjoy working the carnival and watching our children have some good old fashioned fun.

Hi Vanessa,

Thanks so much for your comment on our blog!

I hear you that you are concerned about the Carnival and want to reward our hardworking kids.

Let me just tell you, however, that as I understand it the Carnival is 100% funded by the PTA and was just under a 7k expenditure last year.

Let's take the discussion from there and keep the communication lines open!

Best,
Trish Hale

Hi there! Please correct me if I am wrong but I was always under the impression that the carnival was a give back. It was from the pta and administration as a reward to the whole school for all their hard work during the year. Basically a nice, safe way for all the children to have a day of fun. There is a lot of stress for the upper grades with all the state tests. I do not remember voting to have the carnival just on how much money was spent. So I guess my question is are we voting to have or not have the carnival this year?
Thanks again,
Vanessa

Hi Vicky,

Thanks so much for using the blog! I am really excited that you brought your comment here.

As for your questions regarding the carnival, the current fundraisers are not 'tagged' for the carnival; however, that does not mean there is no carnival this year. Like all of our school wide PTA sponsored functions, the carnival expenditure will be voted upon and the will of the majority of parents will prevail.

The decision about how to handle the growing student body will be an administrative decision.

The decision about how to administer PTA funds is a collective decision made by democratic vote at PTA meetings.

For more information about what the current fundraisers are raising funds for, please read posts in the 'fundraising' category on this website.

Thanks!
Trish Hale, PTA President

Hi Ladies: I have a question and then a brief comment. Do you plan to use any of these proceeds for the end of year carnival? Or is this not taking place this year?

Also I'd like to add that while I think that saving the environment is a great idea, I think the money being asked from the provider is ridiculous; I am sure if a little shopping around were done, you can get a "board of ed" discount at 1/2 the price.

Has any thought been given to possibly use the funddrive monies into purchasing a cart and state of the art art supplies, so that our children can receive art in their rooms. Then the art room can be renovated and turned into a classroom, in order to alleviate the already overpopulated classrooms?

This is not meant to offend anyone, as we all have different views. I am merely asking questions since I generally sell quite a bit for the school every year, and I like to know what causes my efforts are being utilized for.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
